Repurposing excel files brings along all the baggage associated with those past files.
We all do it … take the excel file from the last matter than was kind of close to what we are trying to accomplish. We shoehorn it into the current situation … add some things … hide some columns / rows … ignore some sheets, but we dare not delete them because we might, just maybe, need them some time in the future on some other file …
Don’t get me wrong, we all know and use spreadsheets, but they are prone to error. We have all added rows and then later realized the added rows aren’t included in the subtotals. (Search “biggest excel errors of all time” for some interesting reading)
One of our favorite features of our Matrimonial Tools app is the excel export tool. We recognize that lawyers, clients and judges all expect that the Matrimonial Property Schedule will be in excel format. However, the exported excel file comes with zero baggage because until you hit that “Generate” button, it didn’t exist … it’s freshly created every time … because we could all use a little less baggage. 😊
